-----------
BACKUP YOUR pak01_dir.vpk BEFORE REPLACING IT WITH THE ONE IN THIS
INSTALLATION.

THE FILE SHOULD BE LOCATED IN:
x:\Program Files\steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead
-----------

If you did the above, then I won't scream at you and tear you
to pieces when you come crying to me about how your game is now
fubar or that you have trouble hosting.

-----------

Now that you've done the above, installation is easy:

- Navigate / Extract the following contents to your left4dead
folder, standardly
x:\Program Files\steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead

- Rename 'Look at the readme.vpk' to 'pak01_dir.vpk'

The .vpk file provided in this archive is an editted copy of the
July 16th, 2009 update of Left 4 Dead. Should there be an update
of the .vpk at a later stage, I would suggest following the
instructions under the first issue in this readme.

If you run into problems, read below.

-----------

ISSUES

As stated above, there will be some issues with custom models
being replaced in this format. Other source games typically
contained custom model support that wasn't such a pain in the
ass. Gabe, being the flaming faggot that he is, doesn't seem
to like the idea even whilst theres a whitelist.

---

The most obvious issue is when the game updates. The file
pak01_dir.vpk is more often than not replaced with the update,
therefore disabling this and other models that use this method.
You'll notice this when you see the default witch.

In order to re-enable them, you'll have to edit pak01_dir.vpk
in notepad++ or other specialized notepad programs.
Do not attempt to use the regular notepad provided with windows
as that generally tends to corrupt the file instead. Oh, and
don't forget to backup.

- Notepad++ is available at http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm

- When you've opened pak01_dir.vpk with notepad++, scroll down to
around line 40000, click on any line and press ctrl+F.

- In the search box, search for entries of 'witch'. You'll often
come across with stuff such as 'switchbox' or something switch.
The entry you're looking for should appear along the lines of 'yywitch'
(anim_witch does -not- count, do not change it)j쪺witch令witc2

- There are 5 of these entries that need to be changed. When you
come across one, change any letter within 'witch' while maintaining
the amount of characters already present (eg. w2tch, wihch, etc)

- When you're done, press ctrl-S or file > save to save the file.

---

The other issue is with hosting a local server. Models using this
method are for the client alone. If you attempt to host a local or
dedicated server that you own having changed the .vpk file, and the
director spawns a witch during the course the game, all clients except
those having performed the above installation will crash. You must
use the original .vpk file if you wish to host a game. If you backed it
up like I told you, awesome. Just make a copy of the edited vpk file and
switch between the backup.

If not, buzz off. I don't write walls of text for nothing.
